Neymar out of World Cup according to Brazil boss Luiz Felipe Scolari

Brazil striker Neymar has been ruled out of the remainder of the 2014 World cup after suffering a back injury during Friday's 2-1 win over Colombia. The forward needed to be stretched off in the 88th minute in Rio following a rash challenge from Juan Zuniga, and the Barcelona star was admitted to hospital at once after the Samba Kings's quarter-final victory in Rio.

Brazil boss Luiz Felipe Scolari has since supported the news Neymar will miss the semi-final against Germany on Tuesday, as considerably as the final, should the host nation progress that far.

Scolari said: "Neymar was kneed in the lower back and was in a lot of pain. I don't know if he will be able to play in the next game. "It won't be comfortable for him to recover, based on what the doctor told us and the pain he's in."

Brazil doctor Rodrigo Lasmar added:"It's not serious in the gumption that it doesn't require surgery, but he will need to freeze it to recover.

" Regrettably, he's not moving to be able to play."
